TipsThe Principles! Understanding GRIP, AIM & SET UP are VERY IMPORTANT!. They are the MAIN factors when you are getting ready to hit your shot. You have better truly understand what each part does, how they work, and how they are applied to the swing. They happen "before" you swing, but are the MAJOR influences when the ball does not go straight. You must have faith and trust that when you are getting ready to start your swing, that these 3 items are correct. Stop by the Pro Shop today and I will discuss the importance of this with you anytime for free! Thanks! Lets Talk Putting!! Are you a good putter? Do you understand the basic fundamentals of putting? Alignment, stance, hand & eye position? If not, you better get a GRIP quick! Putting consumes nearly 40 some percent of the round. You should certainly get a lesson to learn these fundamentals from your local PGA Professional. I will touch on a couple. A.) eyes over the ball: do you know where your eyes are in relationship to the ball?? If you dropped a ball from your eye when you where getting ready to stroke the putt, the ball dropped from your eye "should" fall on top of the ball your stroking. Check that out for sure and make it happen. B.) the stroke is made by the "shoulders", not the hands or wrists!!! Do you understand that? C.) Your head should stay still while you make your putting stroke. You should listen for the ball to fall into the hole. I would book a lesson today to make sure you undertand FUNDAMENTALS!!
Thanks Joe Work on your short game! Spend time on chipping, pitching and putting if you really want to lower your golf scores. Over 75 % of the game of golf is played from 100 yards into the hole, yet most golfers spend time hitting their driver on the range. Harvey Penicks "Little Red Book" says it the best, "if you want to lower your score by 5-6 shots in one year, spend more time working on your short game"! 5 to 6 shots better??? almost GUARANTEED!! Square Clubface at Impact; Great way to get the ball to go straight...take a 7 iron, put the ball on a tee...work on taking the club back half way and make sure the toe is straight up at that point...then swing forward to half way thru and also make sure the toe is straight up at that point also...if the toe of the club is in these positions.,..the clubface should be square at impact..try hitting 1/2 shots working on getting the toe of the club STRAIGHT up in the air at both 1/2 way points....you should start to hit the ball better and understand the club postions at key points in the swing. Thanks Joe Great Putting Tip!Here is a GREAT tip when putting....keep your head down and listen for the ball to fall into the hole. I see way to many people who at impact pick there head up and also the body gets to an open position. Practise putts keeping your head down as long as possible, you need to trust what you are feeling and thinking. You will see instant results and become a better putter if you do this. I promise! Don't Overdo it at First!
When getting back out to the range for the first time of the season, be sure you don't over do it. By that I mean, I see people take out their drivers and start swinging away without stretching at all. Do some stretching for 10 minutes before you hit balls, this will help you get loose and help your swing. If you are having problems hitting the ball solid early in the season, try using a 7 iron and taking 1/2 swings to make better contact. If you cant hit it in the air and straight with a 1/2 swing, it wont happen with a full swing. This will also help you work on slowing down your tempo and having a more controlled swing.
